Chisinau, Jan 9 /MOLDPRES/- Prime Minister Dorin Recean today assured that there are currently no prerequisites for electricity prices to rise. The official reiterated his appeal to citizens to save electricity, especially during peak hours, when its purchase price increases.
"For the right bank of the Dniester, we have taken into account absolutely all the risks that may materialize in the next half a year and today there are no premises for electricity prices to rise. We keep the same request to all citizens, to save electricity consumption, especially during peak hours, and there will certainly be no reason to increase the tariff", he emphasized.
The official is visiting the Security Zone today, together with President Maia Sandu and Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Oleg Serebrian.
As of January 1, 2025, the Russian company Gazprom suspended the delivery of natural gas to Moldovagaz. Therefore, MGRES/Cuciurgan power plant no longer supplies electricity to the right bank of the Dniester.
Under these circumstances, Chisinau authorities have announced that in January 2025, the electricity consumption needs of the Republic of Moldova (right bank of the Dniester river) will be supplied by local production and imports from Romania. Thus, according to forecasts, the thermal power plants in Chisinau and Balti will provide about 28% of consumption. Another 10% would be renewable energy. The remaining 62% of electricity needs will be imported from Romania.
As for the situation on the left bank of the Dniester, the data of the Government's Crisis Cell show that the volume of energy produced by MGRES/ Cuciurgan power plant and Dubasari hydropower plant is not sufficient, with an acute shortage. As of January 7, 2025, scheduled power outages lasting 8 hours are taking place in the Transnistrian region throughout the entire territory of the region. Disconnections are announced for today, January 9, in the intervals 08:00 - 12:00 and 16:00 - 20:00 for a part of the population and between 12:00 - 16:00 and 20:00 - 00:00 for another part.
