Chisinau, 9 January /MOLDPRES/ - Tiraspol so far has not accepted Ukraine’s proposal to provide the region with coal. Foreign Affairs Minister Mihai Popsoi made statements to this effect at a news conference held jointly with Foreign Affairs Minister of Finland, chairwoman-in-officer of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Elina Valtonen.
The Moldovan diplomacy head said: ‘’We have already everybody seen the previous answers to our offers of support.
We hope that, this time, the answer will be different, as the position of our partners, including of the Kiev ones, as well as of those from Finland and the European Union, is a sincere one, to provide assistance. As a matter of fact, this is also the position of Moldova, which has repeatedly offered to help our citizens from the left bank of Dniester. We stay, in continuation, open and we will work, in order to create this international support, so that we help our citizens on the left bank of Dniester overcome the difficulties in which they found themselves because of Gazprom or of the cynicism proved by the Kremlin on these complicated moments for Moldova’s citizens,’’ Popsoi said.
Foreign Affairs Minister of Finland Elina Valtonen said that today she was to meet the breakaway leader, Vadim Krasnoselsky and Vitaly Ignatyev. ‘’We are here to support you in this critical situation from the energy viewpoint. Gazprom’s decision to cease the supply of gas to the Transnistrian region is meant to undermine economic and political stability of the country and to weaken the security in the entire region.
I am firmly committed to advance the Transnistrian settlement process. We will put emphasis on backing the dialogue. Finland supports a comprehensive and long-lasting settlement of the Transnistrian conflict, based on the integrity and sovereignty of Moldova and of the good of the population, within the internationally recognized borders,’’ the OSCE chairwoman-in-office said.
On 1 January 2025, the Gazprom Russian giant suspended the delivery of natural gas to Moldovagaz Company.
