Chisinau, 9 January /MOLDPRES/ - The situation in the energy sector of Moldova and the measures needed to avoid a humanitarian crisis on the left bank of Dniester have represented the principal subjects tackled at a meeting of Prime Minister Dorin Recean and Foreign Affairs Minister of Finland, chairwoman-in-office of OSCE Elina Valtonen, the government’s communication department has reported.
PM Dorin Recean stressed that Russia had artificially triggered the energy crisis in the Transnistrian region, in order to destabilize the situation in Moldova and the Moldovan authorities, with the support of the foreign partners, would cope with this challenge.
„The government undertakes all measures necessary, in order to make sure that the citizens on both banks of Dniester have access to electricity, heating and natural gas,’’ the PM said.
At the same time, Prime Minister Dorin Recean reiterated that Russia must withdraw its troops and stocks of ammunitions which are illegally deployed on the territory of Moldova.
The officials also discussed the European integration process and the opportunities from which the citizens and businesses of the left bank of Dniester benefit, as well as the efforts made for the gradual reintegration of the Transnistrian region.
In the context, the Finnish diplomacy head, Elina Valtonen, gave assurances about the continuous support provided to Moldova. She emphasized the willingness to actively contribute to the management of the present challenges, including through the consolidation of the energy security, backing the reforms and promotion of the regional stability.
PM Dorin Recean expressed gratitude for the assistance provided by Finland. He highlighted the joint declaration, signed by the Nordic Baltic States, which underlined the willingness to cooperate with the European Commission and other international partners, in order to consolidate the support provided to Moldova, in the context of the energy sector. The prime minister also appreciated the Moldovan-Finnish relations and the cooperation in diverse fields, among which: education, security, human rights, ensuring the public order and crises management.
