Chisinau, Jan 10 /MOLDPRES/- Border Police in collaboration with the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine has dismantled a criminal group involved in facilitating illegal migration, which operated in the eastern part of the country. The joint apprehension operation took place on December 30-31, 2024, on the area of responsibility of the Border Police Sector "Volintiri", according to the Border Police release.

On the night of December 30-31, Border Police patrols identified and intercepted two illegal crossings of the state border, detaining nine Ukrainian citizens who crossed illegally from Ukraine into the Republic of Moldova.

Investigations revealed the existence of a criminal group operating on the territories of both countries, charging between 3,500 and 10,000 dollars for facilitating illegal border crossings. The group offered logistical and informational support to those interested in illegal migration.

Through immediate coordination with the Ukrainian authorities, a member of the group, identified on Ukrainian territory, was apprehended, originating from the Republic of Moldova. He was handed over to the Moldovan authorities for further criminal investigations.

The Border Police calls on citizens to report any suspicious activities at the border and to cooperate with the authorities in the fight against organized crime.
