Moldova to step up efforts to modernize transport infrastructure, ensuring better connectivity with EU

Chisinau, Jan 13 /MOLDPRES/- The leadership of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development (MIDR) of the Republic of Moldova met with European Union Director General for Mobility and Transport (DG MOVE) Magda Kopczyńska. The sides discussed the strengthening of cooperation in the transport and road infrastructure, with a focus on ongoing projects and how the European Union can support their implementation.
Deputy Prime Minister, MIDR head Vladimir Bolea reaffirmed Moldova's commitment to continue the process of interconnecting national transport networks with European ones, stressing that the modernization of rail and road infrastructure is a central pillar, important not only for the economic development of the country, but also for the entire region.
"The Republic of Moldova continues to boost efforts to modernize the transport infrastructure to ensure better connectivity with the European Union. At the Ministry we have as a priority the rehabilitation of the railway infrastructure and we are making every effort to identify the best options for maximizing the use of railways. Our objective in the perspective is to shift transportation from road to rail so as to facilitate the transit of goods through international transport corridors," said Bolea.
Magda Kopczyńska underlined that the European Union will continue to provide assistance to the Republic of Moldova in order to speed up the modernization of transport infrastructure and to facilitate the connection to the European network.
The meeting also focused on future plans for transport cooperation, including new EU funding opportunities for strategic infrastructure projects.
