Over 680,000 families benefit from compensations for energy in Moldova for last December

Chisinau, 13 January /MOLDPRES/ - A number of 680,147 families where 1,300,000 people live benefited from compensations for energy for last December. The government allocated 495 million lei to provide them.
Labour and Social Protection Minister Alexei Buzu informed that the payments for December 2024 had been available starting from 10 January at post offices or on the personal card, depending on the option selected by the beneficiary.
The average compensation for last December was of 727 lei. ‘’For all beneficiaries, we make sure that the post-compensation tariff is not higher as compared to the last year,’’ Alexei Buzu noted.
„I thank the citizens for patience and understanding, for solidarity and for the fact that they save the energy. Together, with care for each other, we will overcome this winter successfully,’’ Buzu added.
The government has been providing assistance for energy to the vulnerable households through the Assistance at Meter programme for the third year in a row. The consumers can benefit from compensations, if they heat their home by using natural gas, thermal energy, electric energy of solid fuel (wood, coal, pellets, briquettes). The compensations are provided for the cold period of the year, which include the November-March months.
In November 2024, about 703,000 applicants were registered in the compensations system and another 33,000 families submitted applications in last December.
The size of the compensations for November was between 300 and 800 lei, depending on the families’ incomes. For December 2024, the compensations grew and varied between 500 and 1,000 lei.
At the same time, for the January-March period, the citizens will receive compensations also for electricity. Thus, the consumption of electric energy will be compensated by the government within the limit of 110 kW for one household.
Starting from January, the cabinet will cover also the increases in tariff for the centralized thermal agent.
