EU to provide Moldova, Ukraine, with humanitarian assistance package worth 148 million euros

Chisinau, 13 January /MOLDPRES/ - The European Union will provide Moldova and Ukraine with a new humanitarian assistance package worth 148 million euros. Statements to this effect have been made in the context of a visit to Ukraine by European Commissioner for Preparedness, Crisis Management and Equality Hadja Lahbib.   

As much as 140 million euros of this package is allocated for humanitarian projects in Ukraine. The financing will be directed to emergency assistance, including food, shelter, drinking water, medical care and protection during winter. Priority in this respect is the backing of the vulnerable residents from the regions severely hit by the war from the eastern and southern Ukraine.   

Another 8 million euros is earmarked for the humanitarian protection in Moldova. The support will be focused on the assistance provided to the Ukrainian refugees and host communities from Moldova, with the priority being the providing of financial assistance and access to essential services, such as medical care and education.    

In a press release, EU informed that the new financing worth 148 million euros would continue supporting the vital humanitarian aid both in Ukraine and in Moldova and the overall sum of humanitarian assistance allocated by the European Commission will exceed 1.1 billion euros.
