Moldovan president says Moldova has important cooperation with United States

Chisinau, 14 January /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova has a quite important cooperation with the United States and wants to continue this collaboration also following the swearing in office of President Donald Trump. President Maia Sandu today made statements to this effect at a news conference held on the decisions of the Supreme Security Council (CSS).
Moldova, according to Maia Sandu, wants to develop the strategic partnership with the USA, especially as regards the energy security. ‘’We want to continue and to enhance our strategic partnership, including on the today’s subject – energy security. The USA has significantly helped us, including with resources for concrete projects, for renewable energy, for our connection to the European market. We have quite useful programmes in the field of enhancement of the economic competitiveness in different branches,’’ the Moldovan president said.
„We have a very important cooperation for us and we want to continue this collaboration.’’ Maia Sandu concluded.
According to data published by the Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE), the Moldova-USA bilateral legal framework is made up of 126 documents. Among them, there are agreements, memorandums, understandings, declarations in the economic, military, judicial, education and scientific researches fields.
The volume of foreign trade between Moldova and the USA in 2023 registered values of 184 million dollars. The exports to the USA amounted to 61.63 million dollars and the imports – 122 .91 million dollars.
In January-July 2024, the USA was on the top of the countries of origin of the imports of goods from Moldova, with 1.6 per cent of the imports. The imports grew by 21.6 per cent. At the same time, the United States was among the principal countries of destination of the exports of goods – with 2.6 per cent, with a 1.7-per cent increase of exports recorded.
New U.S President Donald Trump is to be sworn in office on 20 January. Trump is the only president of the United States with two non-consecutive mandates. He also held the office of president of the USA during 2017-2021.
