Chisinau, 14 January /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova will open an embassy in Kazakhstan this year. The Moldovan diplomacy head, Mihai Popsoi, has made statements to this effect in an interview with public radio station.

The foreign affairs minister noted that the opening of the embassy marked an important achievement for the Moldovan diplomacy. ‘’So far, Moldova has not had a diplomatic presence in this region, although there are historical relations and significant economic opportunities. Kazakhstan is a country with a strong economy and this embassy will facilitate the commercial exchange and the cooperation with other states of the region, such as Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan. The inauguration of the embassy is planned for next spring or during this year, depending on both sides’ availability,’’ Popsoi said.

The Moldovan diplomacy head said that, also in 2025, two consulates would be opened in the United States, in Chicago and Sacramento, in order to provide better consular services to the Moldovan citizens from these regions.

„We are also set to extend the diplomatic presence in other areas of major economic interest, such as Egypt, South Korea and Norway – a close partner, which considerably backs Moldova. At the same time, we promote Moldova as destination for investments and we try to increase the exports to the countries where we have diplomatic representations,’’ the diplomat also said.

The minister said that a notable recent progress was Israel’s decision to open an embassy in Chisinau – an important achievement, following discussions with the new foreign affairs minister of Israel.

„Also, Ireland informed about the opening of an embassy in Chisinau – a piece of news which came several months after my visit to Dublin. Norway and Greece have recently also opened offices of their embassies in Chisinau – a sign of an ever bigger openness on behalf of our European partners. These achievements represent the result of the sustained work of our diplomacy and of the increasing attractiveness of Moldova, due to the confidence and respect which we enjoy internationally, including due to the leadership of President Maia Sandu,’’ Mihai Popsoi added.
