Chisinau, 29 September /MOLDPRES/ - The candidate of the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) for the Moldovan president’s office, Maia Sandu, has had more meetings with communities of Moldovans from Turin, Parma and Bologna.  The candidate for the position of head of state said that ‘’it is amazing how connected our citizens are to the march of things at home, even at a distance of more than 2,000 km far from the country.’’ ‘’The people see and appreciate that we transform Moldova,’’ Maia Sandu said.

Maia Sandu discussed with several young women who had started successful businesses in Turin. Daniela, Ioana and Veronica manage a restaurant, a flower shop and, respectively, a Gelateria (ice cream shop).

„I continued a warm discussion with the community of Moldovans from Turin and its outskirts. It is amazing how connected our citizens are to the march of things at home, even at a distance of more than 2,000 km far from the country. The people see and appreciate that we transform Moldova – we construct roads, aqueducts, and sewerage systems; repair kindergartens and schools, modernize hospitals, create better conditions for people to do business,’’  Maia Sandu said.

The candidate for the Moldovan president’s office also referred to the measures carried out by the government to back the entrepreneurs. ‘’At home, the state supports the entrepreneurs, including through non-refundable funds, through access to advantageous crediting, through the opening of new markets for export and in the next years, we are set to support more the citizens who return to live at home. We will create three regional bureaus, through which we will help young people and the families who came back to easier reintegrate,’’ Maia Sandu noted.

The discussions continued in Parma, Reggio Emilia, Modena and Piacenza. Maia Sandu stressed that there was a big and active community of Moldovans there. ‘’Citizens civically involved, who have fought for years for the observance of the Diaspora’s right to vote. And they succeeded; we made the change at home together in the correct direction of development,’’ Maia Sandu specified.

„We cannot stop at half way. We must continue the projects on development in cities and villages; either we speak about community centres, parks, sports complexes or water supply systems. We should modernize hospitals and schools; continue implementing the programme on afforestation. United, we represent a force! Step by step, we build a safe and comfortable country for each one – we edify the European Moldova together!’’ Maia Sandu underlined.

In the end of the day, the candidate discussed the country’s future with fellow countrymen from Bologna. She visited the business of two young Moldovans, Aliona and Vitalie, who several years ago opened a restaurant and a wine shop, where they promote Moldovan wines.

„We share the confidence that we are strong when we stay united, as well as the wish for our country to be in safety. I urged the people to be informed from reliable sources, to support us in the effort to combat the misinformation and to mobilize at the vote, more than ever, for a future which is in our hands. Together, step by step, we edify the country’s future in peace and development – in the European Union!’’ Maia Sandu also said.

Maia Sandu runs for the second mandate of Moldova’s president. The candidate is on a visit to Italy, where she has meetings with Moldovans who live in this country.

Presidential elections and a constitutional referendum on Moldova’s accession to the European Union will take place in Moldova on 20 October. Eleven candidates will compete for the office of head of state in all. The electoral campaign ends on 18 October 2024, two days before the polls.

Sixty polling stations will be opened in Italy – the largest number out of all polling stations due to be opened outside Moldova.
