Over 200 surgeons from six countries attend conference in Chisinau

Chisinau, Oct 1 /MOLDPRES/- More than 200 surgeons from the Republic of Moldova, Romania, Italy, Germany, Austria, Serbia and Greece gathered at the international scientific and practical conference "Complications of gastroesophageal reflux disease", held in Chisinau.

At the opening of the forum, Sergiu Ungureanu, president of the Association of Surgeons "Nicolae Anestiadi" of the Republic of Moldova stressed the importance of the scientific event, which brings together specialists in esophago-gastric junction surgery, endoscopy and gastroenterology, in order to create a multidisciplinary council that will review surgical techniques, management of complications and new findings in esogastric junction pathology.

Attending the event, rector of the USMF "Nicolae Testemitanu" Emil Ceban appreciated the presence of the European Society's leadership at the event, "which would be an opportunity to strengthen the collaboration relations with colleagues from the European Union". Ceban also emphasized the role of the University in the training of surgeons at all stages of training. "At present, this process is carried out within the framework of six departments of surgery, the members of which are involved in the training of students in 16 surgical programs of study through residency and 144 programs of continuing medical education," the rector said.

Luigi Bonavina, former president of the European Foregut Society and Alexandru Voloc, coordinator, World Health Organization in the Republic of Moldova, also addressed the opening of the conference.

The conference program included presentations on minimally invasive surgical techniques, management of complications and new scientific findings in esogastric junction pathology.

Also, two surgeries were performed by minimally invasive approach, broadcast live in the conference hall, one of which is esophagoplasty in case of esophageal stenosis due to gastroesophageal reflux complication - a first for the Republic of Moldova. The interventions were performed by operating teams consisting of surgeons from abroad and of the SCR "Timofei Moșneaga".

The international scientific-practical conference was organized by the Association of Surgeons "Nicolae Anestiadi" and the European Foregut Society in partnership with USMF "Nicolae Testemitanu", under the aegis of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Moldova.
