Rectors' Council support Moldova's European integration way, encourages academic community to participate in presidential elections

Chisinau, 25 October /MOLDPRES/ - The Rectors’ Council of Moldova today confirmed its support for the country’s European integration way and encouraged the academic community to participate in the runoff of the presidential elections due on 3 November, ‘’in order to freely express their option on the backing and development of the reforms underway in the education and research sector.’’
A declaration issued today by the Rectors’ Council reads that ‘’our common aspiration is to become active members of the European space of education and research’’ and in these circumstances ’’the higher education institutions of Moldova reiterate the need of investment in education and research as essential sectors for ensuring the country’s sustainable development.’’
„The Rectors’ Council of Moldova declares the support for the European integration way of Moldova and expresses gratitude to the European Union for the unconditional support in aligning with the syllabi and research activities at the highest quality standards.
The higher education institutions of Moldova reiterate the need of investing in education and research as essential sectors for ensuring the country’s sustainable development and for the promotion of the social cohesion , of the values and principles on which the European Union is based,’’ the declaration reads.
According to the quoted source, the Universities of Moldova benefited from a lot of projects in the education and research financed from European funds. ‘’Thus, in accordance with the development strategies, our efforts will focus, in continuation, on the promotion of the quality of education, research and learning during the entire life, on investment in programmes on the development of teachers and scientific staff, on the creation of motivating and sure environments of learning for students and on the development of professional skills, in accordance with the present and future needs of the labour market,’’ the Rectors’ Council said.
In the context, the Rectors’ Council of Moldova encouraged the academic community to participate in the presidential elections due on 3 November 2024, ’’in order to freely express their option on the backing and development of the reforms underway in the education and research sector, on the purpose of integration into the European area of the higher education and research.’’
„Our common aspiration is to become active members of the European area of education and research, as the education and innovation is an edifying force of the society, a bridge of understanding and rapprochement between peoples, an urge to action for ensuring the peace, democracy and social progress,’’ the declaration’s authors say.
On 13 September 2024, the rectors of over 70 universities of Romania and of those 18 universities of Moldova met in Chisinau and ‘’confirmed the common commitment for the consolidation of the inter-institutional relations and supporting the integration of the universities of Moldova into the European academic environment.’’
The runoff of the presidential elections will take place in Moldova on 3 November 2024.
