Chisinau, Oct. 30 /MOLDPRES/- Ten Moldovan honey producers have the right to export to the European Union market, as they are listed in EU TRACES NT system.

According to the National Agency for Food Safety /ANSA/, in 2024, the institution has intensively cooperated with producers and exporters in the beekeeping sector to implement the new changes in the European legislation.

"Beekeeping production in the Republic of Moldova is constantly growing. It is certain that the European Union market is a priority for producers of honey and beekeeping products of Moldovan origin," ANSA said.

The institution also urged producers of honey and beekeeping products from the Republic of Moldova, who intend to export to the European Union, to apply to ANSA for authorization to export to the EU market.

On average, the beekeeping sector produces 3,700 tons of honey annually. About 70% of this production is exported. The European Union is the main market for beekeeping production in the Republic of Moldova, where about 90% of Moldovan exports, i.e. about 2,200 tons of honey, arrive annually, according to evaluations for the last 3 years.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, the state has invested more than 100 million lei in the beekeeping sector in 2023, money granted in the form of subsidies for the purchase of machinery, equipment, swarms and queens. Out of 73 applications submitted to the advance subsidy measures, at least half were for investments in beekeeping.

There are 9,421 authorized beekeepers in the Republic of Moldova who hold a beehive passport, of which 3,319 have a legal form of activity.
