Bucharest leadership welcomes Maia Sandu's victory

Chisinau, Nov. 4 /MOLDPRES/- Bucharest officials welcomed Maia Sandu's victory in the presidential elections and said it is "a clear proof of the will of Moldovan citizens to defend their democracy and to secure their path towards joining the European Union".
Romanian President Klaus Iohannis congratulated Maia Sandu on her "historic victory". He said "the Romanian people is alongside the citizens of the Republic of Moldova in this success, which irreversibly anchors the country's destiny in the European family".
Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu said "Moldovans all over the world have written history and have reconfirmed before the whole world not only their courage, but also their full confidence in their European future". "They fought with determination against an infernal mechanism set up by Russia, which tried to massively undermine democracy through large-scale vote buying. Maia Sandu's victory in the runoff is a clear proof of the will of Moldovan citizens to defend their democracy and secure their path to EU membership. It is a moment of great pride and hope for all those who believe in democratic values and in the right of every nation to decide its own destiny", wrote Marcel Ciolacu.
After checking 99.86% of the reports, Maia Sandu won another term as president in the runoff election against Alexandr Stoianoglo, the Socialist candidate. 930,512 eligible citizens voted for Maia Sandu or 55.41% of the total number of voters. Alexandr Stoianoglo received 748,781 votes, 44.49%.
