Chisinau, 13 November /MOLDPRES/ - One of the biggest engineering companies from Germany opens a branch in Chisinau. The company will get involved in the modernization of the railway network from Moldova, so that the goods and people move easier. Deputy Prime Minister, Economic Development and Digitalization Minister Dumitru Alaiba made statements to this effect today.
„One of the biggest engineering companies of Germany, Obermeyer Group, opens a branch in Chisinau! They will modernize the railway network of Moldova, so that the goods and people move easier. This means new well-paid jobs for our gifted young people. The things move. Moldova becomes ever more attractive for the great investors,’’ Dumitru Alaiba wrote.
The Investments Agency informed that, besides the physical opening of the office in Chisinau, the company was on the period of employing staff. ‘’The company will contribute to the creation of local jobs and the cooperation with Moldovan professionals, creating premises for the future collaboration and extending investments in the infrastructure and logistics. The company’s strategic vision is to ensure the presence in the region, in Moldova, for potential projects and beyond the country’s borders, especially in the process of Ukraine’s reconstruction,’’ the Investments Agency said.
The decision on the opening of an office comes as a result of the winning of a contract financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), for technical assistance and supervision in the project on rehabilitation of the north-central segment of the North-South Railway Corridor from Moldova.
The overall value of the project for this railway corridor amounts to 114 million euros, of which EBRD provides a loan of 23 million euros, completed with a grant of 20 million euros on behalf of the European Union and 28 million euros co-financing on behalf of the railway of Moldova (CFM). The modernization of this corridor, which includes the railway segments Vălcineț-Bălți-Ungheni and Chișinău-Căinari, is of strategic importance for Moldova, facilitating the transport of goods from Ukraine to the European Union through Moldova and consolidating the country’s transit capacity.
„We are particularly contented with the initial contact which we had with the Railway of Moldova during the signing of our agreement and at the first meeting on the project’s launch. The leadership and the project team proved a deep understanding of the project and clearly communicated the principal problems which the railway is facing. We are confident that this cooperation with the Railway of Moldova will be quite successful, bringing positive results both for the project and for the country,’’ partner and director general at Obermeyer Hellas LTD, Ioannis Kiru, said.
The Obermeyer Group, which includes 32 offices in nine countries and over 1,200 employees, brings a rich experience in the railway infrastructure and urban development, gained in projects in Germany, the Czech Republic, Turkey, Greece, China and the Middle East. Obermeyer is recognized for the use of advanced technologies in the digital planning and sustainable development of infrastructure.
