Chisinau, Nov. 14 /MOLDPRES/- The 10th meeting of the Sanitary and Phytosanitary Subcommittee (SPS) between the European Union and the Republic of Moldova, held yesterday in Brussels, analyzed the achievements made this year in the agri-food exports, highlighting the significant contributions made by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry and the National Agency for Food Safety. The collaboration has provided our country's economic operators with opportunities to access new markets and expand their export capacity on the European Union market, while also helping to strengthen food safety regulations and standards.
Among the most important developments this year was the approval of the export of fresh poultry meat. Thus, the first batches of fresh and processed poultry meat have already been exported, providing a new economic opportunity for the domestic poultry sector. In addition, the access to the European TRACES NT platform has allowed our producers to expand their exports of category A eggs, ice cream and honey, products that have seen a significant increase in demand on the EU market since 2023.
Another success for the Republic of Moldova is the access obtained for the export of Prunus L Prunus L planting material, which will allow the diversification of production and create new opportunities for Moldovan producers.
The meeting also focused on the progress made in the implementation of the SPS Chapter of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement (DCFTA), as well as our country's requests for expanding access to new European markets. Discussions included bilateral assessments on food safety, sanitary-veterinary and phytosanitary policies, underlining the importance of further alignment with EU standards to further facilitate access of Moldovan products to EU markets.
The technical assistance provided by the European Union, which will help improve standards in the agri-food sector and develop Moldova's export capacities, was also a key issue.
