Chisinau, 17 November /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova’s Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE) condemns the fake and groundless statements by the agree ambassador of Russia, Oleg Ozerov, made in an interview given with a radio station from Russia and asks the ambassador to cease the propagation of fake and manipulating statements.
According to MAE press service, the statement according to which Moldova’s economic situation depends on the commercial relations with Russia was a serious distortion of the reality. The deeds are clear: over 65 per cent of Moldova’s exports go to European Union states, while only as little as 3.7 per cent goes to Russia.
„As a matter of fact, even the Transnistrian region of Moldova exports over 80 per cent of its goods to the European Union. The European Union countries are our reliable partners, which provide open access based on transparent and predictable rules to our agricultural products, qualitative fruits, vegetables and wines. In contrast, Russia during years has imposed abusive politically grounded embargoes, hitting the Moldovan producers and many families which depended on these exports,’’ MAE’s press release reads.
The ambassador also referred to Moldova’s neutrality; yet, Russia is the only state which during a long time has been infringing the constitutional neutrality through the presence of Russian troops on the territory of Moldova, against the will of our state. The accession to the European Union, the decision backed by Moldova’s citizens at the constitutional referendum from 20 October 2024 does not run counter, in any way, the neutrality status, just as the neutral EU member states prove, such as Austria, Ireland or Malta. If Russia’s ambassador wants to contribute to the re-launch of the bilateral relations, the first step should be the working out of a concrete plan for the unconditional withdrawal of the Russian troops from the left bank of Dniester.
„The Foreign Affairs Ministry asks the agree ambassador of Russia to stop the propagation of fake and manipulating statements, which can exceed the limits of the diplomatic behavior, regulated by the Vienna Convention. Moldova will not tolerate the attempts of misinformation and undermining of the truth. The agree ambassador is invited to strictly observe the diplomatic norms and to focus on real solutions, for the benefit of the citizens from both countries, not on propaganda,’’ the press release also reads.
