Record turnout of Moldovans with Romanian citizenship in Romania's presidential elections

Chisinau, Nov 24 /MOLDPRES/- More than 80,000 Moldovans with Romanian citizenship voted in the Romanian presidential elections in the 59 polling stations opened in our country, according to data provided by the Permanent Electoral Authority.

The figure is a record and almost twice higher than that recorded in the first round of Romania's 2019 presidential elections, when more than 43 thousand Romanians voted in Moldova.

The number of voters also exceeds the turnout at the European Parliament elections this summer, when around 57,000 Romanian citizens in the Republic of Moldova turned out to vote.

According to AEP data, a total of 800,094 voters had cast their ballots in the first round of the presidential elections in the diaspora by Sunday at 9 p.m. Most Romanian voters cast their ballots in Germany - 146,433, Great Britain - 141,422, Italy - 122,159, Spain - 87,032, the Republic of Moldova - 80,942, France - 40,757, Belgium - 39,938, Austria - 28,164, the Netherlands - 24,542, Ireland - 13,784 and Denmark - 11,604.

Diaspora voting in the presidential elections took place over three days, from Friday to Sunday.

For the Romanian presidential elections, 59 polling stations were open in our country.
