Chisinau, 16 December /MOLDPRES/ - The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) stood at 233.1 billion lei during January-September 2024, at the current market prices, up (in real terms) by 0.6 per cent against the same period of 2023.
According to the National Statistics Bureau (BNS), the GDP’s increase on the concerned period was caused by such activities as information and communications, financial activities and insurances, processing industry, production and provision of electric and thermal energy, gas, hot water and conditioned air, constructions, wholesale and retail trade, maintenance and repair of vehicles and motorcycles.
On the other hand, the agriculture, forestry and fishery, transport and depositing, real estate transactions had a negative influence on the GDP’s evolution. At the same time, the net taxes on product, with a share of 13.8 per cent for creating the GDP, decreased by 1.3 per cent, causing a cutting of the GDP by 0.2 per cent.
„Unfortunately, the drought in agriculture affected the economic growth. In the third quarter, the agricultural production registered a significant decrease of 17 per cent. Instead, many other sectors registered positive developments: processing industry, extracting industry, constructions, information and communications HORECA, production and delivery of electric and thermal energy, hot water and conditioned air,’’ Deputy Prime Minister Dumitru Alaiba said.
The official noted that the Moldovan companies’ investments had grown by 12 per cent in the first nine months of this year and the overall investments increased by 6.8 per cent. Nevertheless, the involution in the agriculture slowed down the pace of economic growth, so that the GDP increased by 0.6 per cent during January-September, this year.
„We do not give up! This situation highlights, more than ever, the need to diversify the economy and continue the reforms which we promote. And the Economic Growth Plan will help us here, which through quite concrete investments will back us in achieving our goal of 8-10-per cent economic growth, which is so necessary! In the context, any obstacle imposed to an entrepreneur, any abusive treatment or blockage of the work, no matter the scope, on behalf of any state institution, should be regarded as an attempt of sabotaging the national economy,’’ Dumitru Alaiba said.
