Role of civil society in promotion, monitoring of Moldova's European agenda discussed in parliament

Chisinau, 17 December /MOLDPRES/ - The consolidation of the joint efforts of cooperation with the civil society for ensuring a high degree of transparency of the legislative process and the speeding up of the national European integration goal brought together about 100 representatives of the civil society at an annual conference held at the parliament’s headquarters today.
Attending the event were Deputy Parliament Speaker Doina Gherman, MPs, Head of the European Union’s Delegation to Moldova Jānis Mažeiks, the leadership of the parliament’s secretariat, representatives of development partners, European experts and over 100 civil society’s representatives.
At the three sessions of discussions, the participants tackled subjects on the good practices of cooperation between the parliament and the civil society; they emphasized the essential role of the civil society in the promotion and monitoring of Moldova’s European agenda, especially the cooperation in the current process of Moldova’s screening, at the phase of negotiations for European integration.
At the beginning of the conference, Deputy Parliament Speaker Doina Gherman said that the parliament was continuously taking efforts to consolidate the partnership with the civil society. ‘’We record a more efficient participation of the sides interested in the process of taking decisions in the legislative body. Obviously, it is still much work to be done, including in order to improve or cooperation; yet, I believe that everybody will agree that the dynamic is a positive one. Now, more unity, vision, pro-activity is needed and we expect the civil society, as well as the parliament, each lawmaker individually to be better organized, so that we should work together as a single mechanism, in order to accelerate our process of accession to the European Union,’’ Gherman said.
Head of the European Union’s Delegation to Moldova Jānis Mažeiks said that the civil society was the basic partner which can support the parliament’s work and which plays a crucial role as adviser and supervisor for the decision-makers during the process of accession to EU. ‘’We will back in continuation both the central and local public authorities, as well as the civil society of Moldova in the carrying out of the reforms necessary, for you to become a member state of the European Union,’’ Mažeiks said.
During the discussions, MPs Marina Morozova and Ina Coseru referred to the improvement of the cooperation with the civil society through the implementation of the mechanism of Council of experts at to the parliamentary activity in the process of Moldova’s European integration.
