Energy situation in Transnistrian region discussed in parliament

Chisinau, Dec. 18 /MOLDPRES/- Members of the special parliamentary commission for monitoring and control over the implementation of Moldova's reintegration policy discussed the energy situation in the Transnistrian region, Bender/Tighina and the Security Zone localities in the context of the state of emergency yesterday.

Attending the event were Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Oleg Serebrian, representatives of the Energy Ministry, the Labor and Social Protection Ministry, the Education and Research Ministry, Reintegration Policy Office, General Inspectorate of Police, General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, National Penitentiary Administration, Joint Control Commission and People's Advocate.  The discussion was chaired by special commission chairman Roman Rosca.

The meeting was also attended by representatives of Moldovagaz, Premier Energy and RED-Nord.

Representatives of Dubasari, Causeni and Anenii Noi district councils, as well as mayors of localities in the Security Zone, which are supplied with electricity or gas from the networks of the so-called Tiraspol structures also participated in the meeting.

The talks focused on the energy situation in the Transnistrian region, Bender/Tighina and the Security Zone localities and the risks that may arise as a result of the cessation of natural gas supplies to the Transnistrian region and Bender/Tighina by Gazprom, as well as ensuring the functioning and stability of the energy sector throughout the territory of the Republic of Moldova.

The subject of the discussions was the evolution of the situation in the energy sector in the context of the establishment of a state of emergency throughout the territory of the Republic of Moldova, starting December 16, 2024, ways of intervention in various scenarios, assistance needs to ensure the protection of persons in groups at increased risk and the proper functioning of national institutions interconnected with the natural gas delivery and electricity supply systems on the left bank of the Dniester and Bender/Tighina, including, educational institutions, penitentiaries, placement centers, hospitals, etc.

Since 16 December, a 60-day state of emergency has been declared throughout the Republic of Moldova in connection with potential risks of energy shortages.

The special parliamentary commission for monitoring and control over the implementation of Moldova's reintegration policy was set up in 2021 at the proposal of Speaker Igor Grosu. Its objective is to monitor and assess the situation regarding reintegration policies and to draw up proposals and recommendations that would help regain trust and bring citizens on both banks of the Dniester closer together.
