Chisinau, 14 January /MOLDPRES/ - The Supreme Security Council CSS) convened at a meeting today. At the end of the event, Head of state Maia Sandu informed about the actions due to be undertaken by the authorities and the measures of assistance for the residents on the two banks of Dniester, in the context of the energy crisis.

The government offered to buy gas for left bank of Dniester

The Moldovan president said that Moldova’s authorities had notified Tiraspol back in November 2024, in order to discuss the situation and elaborate solutions of avoiding the energy crisis. The answer, yet, was negative each time.

„They have constantly refused the working out of these solutions and they refused also the assistance proposed by the neighbours. They set forth conditionings and other fully irrelevant things for this situation. The government offered to buy gas for the left bank. Also, Chisinau quite clearly said that, if there were patients in  serious condition, they can be transferred to hospitals on the right bank of Dniester. And this offer was refused too; they even denied the access of ambulances to the region,’’ Maia Sandu said.

„The goal of this humanitarian crisis triggered by the Kremlin on the left bank is to generate a political crisis on the right bank and worsen the situation’’

The head of state said that the goal of this humanitarian crisis, triggered by the Kremlin on the left bank, was to generate a political crisis on the right bank and worsen the situation.

„Russia in the last years has undertaken more attempts and actions of destabilizing the situation on the right bank of Dniester and each time tried to involve the Tiraspol regime in these destabilization actions. What happens now is also a form of pressure coming on behalf of the Kremlin on the Tiraspol regime, so that the latter turns more cooperative. It is not for the first time that we face such situations. Moldova’s citizens went through such strikes made by Russia: when we faced the blockage of the export of wines, when the export of fruits to Russia was blocked. We had situations of use of energy for blackmail. We went through all these situations, as we were united, wise and in solidarity and we must do this now too,’’ the Moldovan president noted.

Solutions discussed at CSS

Maia Sandu informed about the solutions today discussed by the members of the Supreme Security Council (CSS), among which: the finishing of the high-tension power lines Chisinau-Vulcanesti till the end of the 2025 year and the increase in the investments in the renewable energy.

The president specified that, on the next period, the support for the citizens and economic agents hit might increase, through the providing of energy vouchers and compensations.

„The providing of these compensations to economic agents is also aimed at preventing the increase in prices. On the one hand, we want the competitiveness of economic agents not to be affected and on the other hand, we want to prevent the increase of prices. Namely therefore, this programme comes, which is to partially compensate, by up to 50 per cent, the costs borne and help economic agents implement better technologies. The vouchers are meant to help, especially the vulnerable households, to optimize the cut the spending for the electric energy,’’ Maia Sandu said.

The head of state informed that over 600,000 households would benefit from compensations and urged the citizens to be united in the effort to save electric energy.

President Maia Sandu summoned the Supreme Security Council to a meeting today. The participants in the event discussed the situation in the energy sector and the measures of assistance for the residents.
