Chisinau, Jan. 14 /MOLDPRES/- Since 2022, after the beginning of the war in Ukraine, Romania has demonstrated its ability to quickly adapt to international contexts. Through a series of measures, we have demonstrated unequivocally that we have the ability to act in an integrated and strategic manner together with NATO and EU partners. Romania's Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Sorin Grindeanu made the statement during the 11th Quint format high-level meeting in Chisinau.

The event brought together representatives of Moldova, Romania, Ukraine, the US and the EU to discuss common priorities in the development of transportation infrastructure and strategic corridors connecting the Danube region. The minister presented the measures Romania has taken since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine, including increasing the operational capacity of Constanta Port, Galati Port and the Sulina Canal.

"We have also operationalized rail and road infrastructure in the main ports. In addition, we have improved rail and road capacity along the entire border with Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova. Through all these measures, we have demonstrated unequivocally that we have the ability to act in an integrated and strategic manner together with NATO and EU partners," Grindeanu said.

According to the official, the measures taken made it possible to transit through Romania more than 70 million tons of goods, of which more than 55 million tons were grain and agricultural products.

"We managed to ensure navigability on the Sulina Canal 24/24 and to restore the railroad infrastructure in the Ports of Constanta and Galati. The Port of Constanta has practically become the most important port on the Black Sea at the moment," he said.

Grindeanu also noted that the road and railroad infrastructure in the area of the border crossings with Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova has been significantly improved. "All this infrastructure will remain operational even after the end of the conflict and will provide Romania with one of the most important roles as a starting point for the reconstruction of Ukraine," he said.

He also says that in addition, the taxes and fees paid by the companies that will relocate to Romania will bring higher revenues to the state budget, and this money can be used to further develop the Romanian economy and infrastructure.

"One of the effects we are counting on is to make Romania more attractive to investors. I believe that the efforts made by Romanians, together with other partners, must and will be rewarded. We have shown that we are capable of solidarity and I expect that now, those whom we have supported, will in turn show their appreciation for the efforts we have made", Grindeanu said.

The meeting ended with a joint commitment to speed up infrastructure projects in the Danube region in order to support the reconstruction of Ukraine and create a stable and prosperous environment for all countries involved.
